XIC is an international school in Jávea, founded in 1994 to provide a quality education based on the English National Curriculum within an international environment. The College comprises primary and secondary schools ranging from nursery at 3 years of age, through to GCSE at 16 and to ‘A’ level at 18 . The natural progression in a family’s education can therefore take place with the least possible disruption.
The school has recently begun a new stage in its development thanks to a change in ownership. David Gardner Brown bought the college in July 2005. Since then plans have been formed which involve acquiring land, on which a new, purpose built school can be constructed. Exciting times indeed!
The current role of almost 300 students is made up of children of some twenty nationalities. We offer them a diverse education here at X.I.C. The college is fully authorised to admit students of all nationalities and to convalidate their studies in line with the Spanish Education System. Teaching the Spanish language and culture is an important part of the curriculum between the ages of 5 to 16 as well as at ‘A’ Level.
We strongly believe in working closely with parents in the best interests of all our students and we are very pleased to have a new Parents and Teachers association known as ‘The Friends of X.I.C.’
Xabia International College Secondary
The Secondary school is only minutes from the centre of Javea and some 400 metres from the Mediterranean Sea. Teaching rooms are clustered around a central courtyard with a separate playground to the rear, generally used for ball games.
The maximum class size is 21 pupils, encouraging an atmosphere in which effective teaching and learning can thrive. There are two science laboratories, an ICT suite, assembly hall, music/ drama room, art & design room and specialist rooms for all the conventional academic subjects.
For the benefit of students a few subjects are taught in ability groups – English, Mathematics, Science, German, Spanish – whilst the majority of the curriculum is delivered to mixed ability form groups. We offer First Language Programmes in Spanish and German in addition to the broad and balanced English National Curriculum. The curriculum is enriched by visits to local places of interest. The main extra-curricular activities are karate, football, drama, art, fencing and golf.
The exam results are excellent and compare favourably with other non-selective independent schools elsewhere in Europe. Virtually all our sixth form leavers proceed to University, mainly in the UK, Germany and Spain.
Secondary is a thriving community which provides a relaxed but purposeful learning environment in which students of all abilities are encouraged to fully develop their potential.
Xabia International College Primary
Set in a privileged position in Portichol, Jávea, with spectacular sea and coastal views, our Primary School is approximately 2km from the Secondary site.
We have excellent outdoor recreational facilities, including gardens and a swimming pool, as well as specialist language and music rooms, a fully equipped computer suite and infant and junior libraries. Our pupils benefit from mixing with children of many different nationalities in small classes.
The college has retained its family atmosphere during expansion, enjoying good relationships with parents and children. Our excellent and enthusiastic teaching team is one of our greatest strengths. We have achieved a reputation for providing a quality education in this area, of which we are very proud.
Our full Spanish programme is introduced from the age of 5. We also offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities, including karate, tennis, football, sport, golf, drama, art, computing and gardening. Children have the opportunity of joining our orchestra and choir and German lessons are offered to native speakers as well as beginners.
Parents are encouraged to come in to school and help in many different ways, including hearing children read and supporting ICT and art lessons. Social and fundraising events are organised by the recently-formed
“Friends of XIC”, throughout the year.
